wallpaper stripping

I have just started to strip the wallpaper ready to paint but have found the plaster to be in poor condition and cracked. I don’t want to paint directly onto the wallpaper as the pattern will probably show through, but an idea came to mind that if I strip on the top layer of paper to leave the underlying layer still attached to the wall and then paint onto this clean surface. The way I see it (it’s a bit like having lining paper on the wall. Thoughts & experiences please?

wallpaper stripping

I’m moving into a rent house in a couple of weeks and have gotten approval to paint. I really don’t want the hassel of stripping off the old (hidious!) wallpaper, because it’s not my house. But I want it to look good! Thanks!

Wallpaper itself was stripped. It’s just the glue under the paint that’s the trouble.

You know what i’m talking about: the wallpaper and then it has plastic strips down the wall in spots and little plastic hole plug things…it’s in good condition.
