It’s just possible to do everything in 10 minutes, if you’ve spent days setting everything up beforehand. It doesn’t take that long to sign your name a dozen times. But that’s the end of the process, not the whole process.

An attorney who represents himself has a fool for a client. Pay a real estate attorney to make sure that everything is in order – or you could end up “conveying” your money and getting nothing. For instance, will you accept a quit-claim deed, or conveyance of right, title and property? Or does your state convey property by deed? Do you know the differences? Are you accepting encumbrances? (If the site is declared hazardous, you’ll be responsible for the cleanup costs – which could run to many times the price of the property.)

That’s what you pay an attorney for, not making sure that the house won’t fall down.

If you don’t know the answers to these questions you should not be doing this yourself. Professional advise is not as expensive as any one of the problems you could run into.
