What can I do if I feel my conveyancing solicitor is useless?

I’m now 8 weeks after my initial instruction to my solicitor to assist me with the purchase of a new property. I have heard of complications, and the sellers solicitor has been slow, but I don’t see any great reason for the delay to be this substantial. He isn’t pressing for the sale as I would like, and I’m worried that there’s not much I can do about this. Could I sack him and get a new one. Would there be heavy charges, complications with the morgage company. I’m very stressed and would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give me!

You should have been given a client care letter when you initially instructed your solicitor – in this it will give you the company’s grievance procedure – Of course you can sack him. He could charge you for his time which shouldnt be a lot (say no more than £250.00) and reinstruct someone else. There would be no complications with your mortgagee – just tell them you have changed solicitor – they can reissue your mortgage offer. If you have no joy …you can always try the Law Society – good luck

sack him, if your not happy with the service offered. Its your right to do so…would you keep a Dr with whom you were dissatisfied? NO!!
