how do I get the shine back to my new laminate flooring?

By
laminate flooring

We put laminate flooring thru-out our new house. They have done some cutting with a table saw and mudding some spots in the door frames and hall. I now have a floor full of saw dust and sanded off drywall mud on the floor. I tried using a damp washcloth (rung out as much as I could, so it didn’t drip) but there are now smear marks on the floor and the shine is gone. What can I do it get it back?

If gentle washing doesn’t do it, could be they damaged the surface moving around the table saw. Don’t try to put wax or polyurethane on a laminate floor.

Sweep it all up first, then take a cleaner, I used I think one of those lysol ones you have to dilute – mop it up then go over it with the swiffer wood formula – worked for my floors.

Orange glow, or the best thing to be safe so you don’t damage your floors is go to the nearest hardware store such as Home Depot, Lowes, ect. and go to the flooring department find what kind of laminate flooring you have or if you already know it go to the cleaning isle and look at the diff cleaners I used to be a laminate floor installer and I used Mop and Glow , Orange glow they work the best but you have to be carefull because if you get the wrong kind you can ruin your floors by either stripping laminate filming completly off or you’ll discolor your floor so becareful. I hope this is helpful

Vacuum thoroughly and follow the manufactures instructions for floor care, dragging the damp cloth, without vacuuming the debris can cause tiny scratches.

HONESTLY..I’M A PAINTER..I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT WITH MUDDING THE DOOR WAYS AND THE DUST. IT’S GOING TO TAKE A FEW GOOD WASHINGS TO GET THE SHINE BACK. IT SUCKS BUT THAT’S PART OF REPAIR WORK. MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE FILTER IN YOUR FURNACE AS THE COLD AIR RETURN SUCKS THE DUST TO THE FURNACE AND WILL BLOW IT ALL OVER YOUR HOUSE WHEN THE HEAT KICKS ON. FAR AS THE FLOORS..DON’T GIVE UP..JUST WASH THEM A FEW TIMES WITH A MOP. YOUR NOT GOING TO HURT THE FLOOR TILE BY GETTING THEM WET..JUST CLEAN THE WATER UP RIGHT AWAY. GOD FORBID THE TILE DOES COME UP…NEW HOUSE – NEW WARRANTY…IT WASN’T DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME IF SOMETHING HAPPENS FROM CLEANING. REMEMBER..THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. BITES HIS TONGUE AND LOOKS AT YA OUTTA HIS BUSINESS OWNER EYES…. YES, MAM..YOUR RIGHT. WE WILL FIX IT..GRRRRRRRRR LMAO OK I WILL SHUSH NOW..BYEEEE

dust floor well with swiffle dust mop, then mop again using only vinegar water. ( about 1/2 cup of vinegar in 1 gal.)
after a few washings, your floor should like fine.
do not use orange glow as one poster mentioned, not good on floors, could cause stickiness.

The products at wal-mart that are specifically designed for laminate work great. They have a cleaner and shiner all in one.

I had the same problem. Then after spending a fortune purchasing products that I used once and threw away, I discovered HOLLAWAY HOUSE. It is the best stuff out there. I bought it at Wal-Mart. You need to have the floor clean to start with. I put it on heavy, it is a liquid. Then it is important to stay off it about an hour after you are finished….

My floors always look like new. Everyone remarks on how good they look. I do them every two weeks. Try it and you will love it.

Fill a gallon with lots of cold water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar then wash floor again with a clean mop squeezed very well of water or a clean towel dipped in the gallon of water and squeezed of all water. Then dry the laminate floor very well with a soft dry towel. This will remove all the smear marks on the floor. Then let dry overnight. Then once that is done, go to Home Depot and get the liquid wax to shine laminate flooring. I saw it on TV, and there is such a thing that renews the shine on laminate flooring. If they don’t have it, go to a place where they sell laminate and wood flooring and ask them for the wax that renews laminate.
