How to match existing laminate flooring?

By
laminate flooring

My husband and I had existing laminate flooring in our kitchen and eating area when we purchased our home. We have a very open floor plan and this area leads directly into our living space. The carpet in this area is old and needs replacing. We think that the most economical solution would be to replace the carpet with laminate that would match what already exists in the kitchen, but there are so many different types of laminate we are a bit perplexed as to how to match the new to the old.

It’s hard to match an existing floor (wear an tear etc.) The most cost effective solution would be to redo all areas with a peal and stick laminate tile. Then all of the area will be uniform.

Bit of a nuisance but what to do is lift a section, easy enough-just take your time, and take that with you to the shop.

I agree with musicman. Take out a little piece and bring it with you while you shop so you can match it. And when you are ready to install it, take apart some of the old pieces and mix old and new together so that it blends.

I totally agree with musicman and rundown…take up a piece of the flooring to match, and tear back some of the existing floor (you can replace any damaged ones right then too), and continue on mixing the old with the new till it is just new and your floor should blend lovely.

If there is a way to take a sample of what you have now on the floor to the store and match it up that way, if you had flooring left over from the kitchen use that. Try and have something with you when you go to the store because once you are in there it gets very confusing and over whelming. Do you remember the brand of the previous flooring, where you purchased it, try taking a close up picture of the floor and ask someone in the department to help you.
