What is an easy way to remove wallpaper?

By
wallpaper stripping

I have a long strip of wallpaper going around my daughters room and I need to remove it. I don’t want to buy any special chemicals to remove it. Is there a home remedy I can use?

use downy fabric softener and boiling water in a garden sprayer

Steam works best but thoroughly soaking with hot water helps as well.

Is it just a wall paper boarder? I had four of those in my house when I moved in and two of them came off without any special effort. So if you haven’t try to rip some off and see what happens. In any case, I find it’s easier to remove wallpaper if you get the glossy top layer off first.

For the others, I bought a wallpaper scorer & a scraper at a home improvement store and then used my garment steamer. I have heard that Downey mixed with water in a spray bottle works as well.

There are to ways of removing wallpaper soaking it with hot water, don’t forget the wife’s marigolds as some people are allergic to the old paste( it contains a fungicide ) Now put plenty of dust sheets down to soak up the surplus water that drips off the wall.
Doing one section of wallpaper at a time (we in the trade call it a drop) scratch the wallpaper using a scratcher bought from any good wallpaper shop, now with a bucket of hot soapy water and a sponge soak the paper with a the sponge and leave it do the next drop while you wait. Use this method to remove a wallpaper border.
If there are multiply layers of wallpaper i wound hire a wallpaper steamer. One tip on using the steamer dont leave the plate on to long as iotr can lift the plaster or even crack it, keep the plate moving as you are stripping use a sharpe wallpaper stripping scarper.

Tools you need
stripping scarper
bucket
sponge
washing up liquid
pair of rubber gloves
scarcher one or three head version
wallpaper steamer (HSS hire shops)

Here’s the absolute BEST and least expensive way to remove wallpaper:

1. Buy a scoring tool. It’s relatively inexpensive and you can buy it at any home hardware or paint and wallpaper store. It looks like a pizza cutter with spikes.
2. Run the scoring tool every which way over the wallpaper.
3. Fill a spray bottle (an old windex bottle works great) with BLUE car windshield washer fluid. Spray this all over the wallpaper you just scored. Wait 10 minutes. Don’t skip the waiting part, or it won’t work and you’ll need alot of muscle power to get the paper off.
4. Spray a second time. Wait 5 minutes.
5. Easily peel and scrape the paper off in huge pieces.

I know that some people here are going to tell you to use fabric softener. DON’T DO IT! Fabric softener is slimy and hard to remove after. Don’t believe me? Go rub a whole bunch on your hands and try and rinse it off. Plus, fabric softener will really need to be rinsed ALOT! It will also make it hard for any new paint you may want to put on to stick.

If you use the BLUE car windshield liquid, you’ll find it works like a charm (this is how we remove all wallpaper in homes we are preparing to sell). I also had a man here once who told me he’d been removing wallpaper for over 20 years and had never found something that worked as well.

Enjoy your wallpaper-free wall!
